Dunallander 20th September 2022

Just a brief update of the progress on Dunallander. On the 30th August a few of us got together to clean the track in preparation for painting, and over the course of the next few weeks Roy spray painted some of the track, picking out areas by brush that would have been rarely used with differnt shades of the track colour. On the 20th September we had our next meeting and commenced ballasting. Our next scheduled meeting is on Tuesday 4th October at 19.30 to continue ballasting.

We have now had our second meeting in two weeks signalling that we are getting back to holding regular meetings which is great news. The meeting revolved around planning our work schedule. Mike also brought along his buildings and the following photographs show these is place.

Dunallander 9th august 2022

Although there have been a couple of meetings this is the first I have been able to attend since everything went pear shaped. It was great to meet up again with Roy and Tony and to see all the great work Roy has carried out along with some of Mike's buildings. Hopefully we can now kick start things off with regular meetings and the intention is to bring the station board to the Aberdeen exhibition in October so we will be working on that board first. Our next meeting is scheduled for Saturday 20th August. Below Roy and Tony take a well deserved tea break.

Dunallander 12th July 2022

Although we are still finding it hard to get together due the rising cases in Covid, Roy has been busy building up the the terrain with plywood. Below are a couple of images of Roy's latest work. Here is an update of the terrain at the south of the station area. Roy has fitted a level area for the garage sheds adjacent to the goods yard, and also a level platform to support the Sunnyside flats.
Here is a view with some of Mike's buildings in place.
Here are the Sunnyside flats from the street side. The pavement has still to be fitted.

Dunallander Update March 29th 2022

An update on the work Roy has been carrying out on add-on "town" Boards. The road surface needed to be higher, so the 4mm ply top surface has been elevated on 6mm ply pieces to bring it up to the level of the platform top as shown below.
Roy then filled in the gap between the platform and the town boards with similar 4mm ply cut to size and mounted on 6mm ply blocks,
The final photo shows the station board with the town boards removed. Tongues of 6mm ply on the town board fit into recesses under the new road sections on the main board.

Dunallander Update Wednesday 9th March 2022

During last Saturday's meeting gave the first opportunity to lay out Mike's buildings on the nearly complete town area baseboards. Here is a view of the town area
Here is a wider view with the station buildings.
The most challenging building to fit was the Railway Hotel. The road is on a gentle incline, and the footpath adjacent to the hotel descends more steeply via a flight of stairs (still to be added). A slight adjustment was required but it now fits nicely.

Dunallander Update 1st February 2022

Mike and Roy have continued to progress with work on the layout. Roy has fixed the crossover between the Down Line and the branch which was causing derailments if a train was reversed from the Down. This wouldn't be a frequent operation but will be required for running around the pickup goods as it's part of the only loop in the station area. Mike has been continuing to produce his buildings as shown below.
Sunnyside House completed.
Numbers 1 - 3 Bridgend which is situated beside the signal box.
Another building group completed and weathered, just requires chimneys, gutters and finished with matt varnish spray.

Dunallander Update 16th January 2022

Although we had to cancel our meeting on the 15th, Mike and Roy have carried out some work on Dunallander. Roy has carried out some more improvements on the wiring and Mike has been making another of his excellent buildings. Below are a couple of photographs of Sunny Side house. The building is about 75% complete with just the rest of the slates, the bay window roof and the chimney tops to do.
